| This paper analyzes the theoretical and empirical perspective of the process of economic integration. Particular attention is devoted to the trade liberalization aspect of integration. The paper also presents different case studies where different models are used. It includes the theoretical aspects of the economic integration process and discusses empirical tools commonly used to evaluate the impacts of integration. Special attention is devoted to the evaluation of the effects of border barriers on trade.
