| This article presents the reasons that led to the establishment of the WTO, the principles and institutions within it, the conflict resolution mechanism at the WTO, as well as the types of obligations and rights that arise for states. The article contains theoretical analysis of a country’s accession to the WTO, through the illustration of Albania. Also, this paper analyzes the defense mechanisms that exist in WTO /GATT agreements, by giving an overview of the conditions and concrete opportunities of the usage of these mechanisms.
